A Canberra Lakeside Wedding At The Marion
If you’ve ever wondered what a wedding with elements of glamour, romance and nostalgia would look like, I give you Steph and Sam’s lakeside wedding.
To start with, this gorgeous young couple was pure classic Hollywood with Steph’s timeless looks combining perfectly with an elegant, understated dress and hair bun and Sam oozing red carpet confidence in his tux.
Add to this the heritage-listed Hyatt Canberra, one of the capital’s most cherished hotels where Steph got ready before heading to the new jewel in Canberra’s crown; The Marion. This beautiful venue overlooks Lake Burley Griffin and is named in honour of Marion Mahoney, the wife and business partner of Canberra’s chief architect, Walter Burley Griffin. Marion made a huge contribution to the design of Canberra so I think it’s dead romantic that the venue bearing her name sits alongside the lake that she helped to create and bears her husband’s name. It’s like they’re forever hanging out together.
Steph made her entrance to the ceremony to the sound of bagpipes played by Sam’s father. The lovely Sarah Marie then married the couple against the backdrop of the shimmering lake in her fabulous effervescent style.
We headed out for a couple of photo sessions, one before the reception and one during sunset, and they were quite easily some of the most cruisy sessions I’ve had. Steph and Sam looked stunning together and their chemistry was next level. With hardly any need to provide direction I was able to direct my focus on composition and capturing the beautiful moments between the newlyweds.
